You may have already seen all of the things Disney has announced for this summer. A new drone show, more EPCOT areas opening and so much more! All of these things are so exciting but in true Disney form, some of these announcements are a little vague. So I thought I would break them all down this week and give my own thoughts and predictions on each one. I am super excited about all of these things and I hope they are all as fabulous as I am hoping they will be!
Disney Springs Is Getting A Nighttime Show!
That’s right! Disney Springs is set to have a new nighttime drone show called Dreams The Soar starting May 24th! The show will happen nightly through September 2nd and is stated to be “a showcase of Disney stories celebrating the joy of flight with state of the art drones choreographed to create designs in the sky and paired with a “soaring” musical score and memorable movie quotes.” This sounds absolutely amazing and I feel like Disney Springs is well over due for a nighttime show. BUT, I do wonder if this is going to be a drone show like we see in Disneyland Paris or a drone show like the original EPCOT Forever that was kind of a dud. Don’t get me wrong, I loved EPCOT Forever but the drone section they tried to do was not great which is probably why they didn’t bring the drones back when they started EPCOT Forever the second time. So here’s to hoping we get something more like the Disneyland Paris drone show!
All Things Pixar at Hollywood Studios!
Joy is coming to Hollywood Studios! Currently you can meet Joy in EPCOT but starting June 10th Joy will begin meeting at Pixar Place along with other Pixar Pals. There is also a new selfie spot coming to Pixar Place and we know Disney does this really well! I’m sure it will be a quick favorite just like the purple wall in Magic Kingdom. All of this is coming just in time to help promote Inside Out 2 that come to theaters on June 14th. In true Disney style there will also me new Pixar merchandise at Beverly Sunset Boutique as well and I have no doubt it will all be super cute! I love the Pixar Place section in Hollywood Studios, it’s super cute and there are some great character interactions here. My favorite is Edna Mode but Joy may give her a run for her money.
So Many Things in EPCOT!
EPCOT has been undergoing a lot of changes over the last few years and it’s exciting to think all those green walls will soon be gone! CommuniCore Hall will be opening June 10th! This is the building that is being built right behind the new World Celebration area that opened recently with the Walt Disney the Dreamer statue. This new building will be home to all the EPCOT festivals and celebrations. It will also be another space that will be a nice cool place in the park to relax and take a break from the hustle and bustle of the park. You will be able to meet Mickey and Friends here, new green spaces including the new Inspiration Gardens. I am super excited for this area to open. I have no doubt this building and area will be gorgeous, I love the new World Celebration area already and this feels like an extension of this area in a way. It’s already looking beautiful! I am curious about what kind of entertainment will be here and how they will host the festivals in this new space.
Speaking of what entertainment will be in this area, we will be talking about Bruno apparently! There is going to be a new Encanto sing along show from June 10th through September 6th right there in the CommuniCore Hall. Mirabel and Bruno will be a part of the show on the stage during the sing along and I have no doubt this will be a super fun show! It will run multiple times throughout the day and will no doubt have at least one of these songs stuck in your head the rest of the day!
It’s Time To Celebrate The Lion King!
Sooooo, it’s about to be the 30th anniversary of The Lion King! Does that make anyone else feel super old?? But, this is definitely a movie that should be celebrated and I am excited for what they will do for this. Naturally this celebration will be happening in Animal Kingdom. So far all that has been announced is that the Pumba popcorn bucket will be returning and there will be some other treats and snacks throughout the park. You will also be able to meet Rafiki and Timon at Rafiki’s Planet Watch and at the Animation Courtyard you will have the chance to draw your favorite Lion King Characters. I hope there are lots of special eats and treats and even drinks for this celebration. Sometimes they just release one treat that is all over the park but it would be nice to see a lot of different things throughout he park. A signature celebration cocktail would be awesome!
Conclusion
If you are like me, you were hoping Disney would include an opening date for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in this announcement but I think we can glean from it’s absence that it will open later in the summer. The rumor mill, based on an image Disney released is that pass holder previews will start May 28th with the opening being sometime in July. I feel like the opening makes sense since all of these announcements are earlier than July. Either way it’s going to be an exciting summer in Walt Disney World and I can’t wait to see, do and try it all. And share it with all of you of course! I still can’t believe sometimes that I live so close to Disney World that I can just plan to be there on the first day of something, so surreal.
