This past weekend we spent our first ever Star Wars Day in Hollywood Studios celebrating! We got all dressed up in our favorite Star Wars character costumes, grabbed our lightsabers and headed to Galaxy’s Edge to celebrate all things Star Wars in Batuu. This was a really fun experience and one we look forward to doing every year from now on. Honestly, Disney really didn’t do a ton of extra stuff for this, but the fans made it super special and something our kids won’t soon forget. So sit back, let Chewie take the wheel and let’s dive into this Star Wars Day recap!

What Is This All About?
If you are not a Star Wars fan but are still reading this (thanks) you may be wondering why May the 4th is Star Wars day. Well, it’s kind of the unofficial/official Star Wars day because, well….May The Force Be With You…..May the 4th, get it? It’s really just a really fun day to celebrate being a giant Star Wars nerd with all your other Star Wars nerd friends. There are celebrations all over the place but being in Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios was really special.

Oga’s Cantina
We started our day with early entry into the park because we had a reservation at Oga’s Cantina super early. This meant some early morning drinks and hanging out with DJ R-3X (DJ Rex) and Thatcher even had some weird space alien egg Jello. This was the boys first time in Ola’s and they made two mistakes….fired up their lightsaber AND brought their droids that were kind of mouthy. I had the Fuzzy Tauntaun which is Ketel One Botanical Peach & Orange Vodka, Peach Schnapps, Orange Juice with Tangerine, Pure Cane Sugar and Buzz Button Tingling Foam. This drink is a sweet, fruity, delicious drink but it will make your mouth feel like it’s going numb so don’t drink too many! Jay had the Gold Squadron Lager which is a Golden Lager with Lavender and Plum Flavors. Sawyer and Thatcher had the Hyperdrive (Punch It!) that is Powerade Mountain Berry Blast, White Cranberry Juice, Black Cherry Puree and Sprite. They also shared the Oga’s Obsession which was basically a blueberry jello with boba pearls, pop rocks and dried fruit. The waiter let Thatcher know that they were space frog eggs and took him over to the aquarium to meet Bob who laid the eggs…..he was a little grossed out but still ate it! Hahaha

All The Pictures
Of course I tortured everyone all day with a million pictures! We took pics in front of the Millennium Falcon, in caves, stairways and alleyways, by Star Tours and lots of PhotoPass pictures too. I was thrilled, the family not so much but oh well! Pictures are free souvenirs and memories to me so I force them to take them all! Mwah hahaha!

Souveniers
You can’t go to something like this in Disney and not leave with souvenirs! We had to have the Salvaged Stormtrooper Helmet Popcorn Bucket to add to our collection. We actually got this super early while we were on our way to Oga’s and I think in the future this is the way to go. Make sure you have a super early morning dining reservation and then you get into the park before it actually opens and can get souvenirs first and some great pictures without the crowds.

There was a virtual queue for the actual Star Wars day merchandise and the store was in the old Muppets store in Muppet Courtyard. There were t-shirts, pins, cups and plushes but the most exciting thing was a $400 Darth Maul collectors edition Lightsaber hilt. This thing was so cool, some friends of our ended up buying it. It came in a collectors box that when you opened it it lights up red and plays Duel of the Fates from Phantom Menace! We ended up just getting one of the pins, the store was crazy crowded and it was hard to look at things but we wanted something.

They also had 25th Anniversary Phantom Menace merchandise in one of the stores on Hollywood Boulevard. There was a very long line for this store all day that we did not want to wait in when we knew this was not exclusive to just that day. It ended up as we were leaving there was no line so we went in but yet again the store was so crowded you really couldn’t look at anything so we decided to just wait until we could find it somewhere else. We did end up getting an anniversary pin at Disney Springs the next day!

Characters
I was really hoping that Disney World would get some of the characters we have been seeing Disneyland have, but we did not. The only one that is not a usual character for us was Chopper in Star Wars Launch Bay which is super cool! Otherwise it was business as usual here with Rey, Vi Moradi, Mando and Grogu and the Storm Troopers. Honestly what was really great was that there were so many random guests dressed up as they favorite characters. Some very literal and some were more of a bound or a spin on a character. The boys met some super cool guys dressed to the nines and doing some pretty cool lightsaber tricks in one of the hangers and they were nice enough to not only battle with them but take a picture too. If you like our costumes you can find all the pieces on my Amazon Storefront here

Special Happenings
Really the only thing here was the lightsaber meet up in front of the Millennium Falcon at sundown. we were there for the earlier part of this but didn’t stay for the later part just because it was a little crazy. Very cool, but really crowded and loud so with a kid who likes to take off on his own sometimes, we decided that after dark in that crowd might not be good. But this is definitely something you should see at least once as a Star Wars fan because it is really epic!

Rides
You can’t go to Hollywood Studios to celebrate Star Wars day and not ride Star Wars rides right?! We did miss out on Rise of the Resistance but we hopped on Millennium Falcon and Star Tours. We got to see the new Mandolorian scene on Star Tours for the first time so that was a great ending to our day since we rode that on the way out.

Disney Springs
On Sunday we continued our Star Wars celebration by going to see the Phantom Menace at the movie theater in Disney Springs since it was re-released in the theater for the 25th anniversary just for the weekend. This was especially nice because Thatcher doesn’t remember the prequels or really seeing any Star Wars movie in the theater since he was so little when they all came out and when he first watched the prequels. It was cool to see him put some things together throughout the movies that he has seen in other shows and on Star Tours.

At the Lego store on Saturday they had free Star Wars mini builds of Yoda, Princess Leia and Darth Vader but of course these were gone on Sunday. BUT, they had a big Star Wars anniversary lego mural that you could help build on Sunday so the boys got to do that and thought it was neat that they were a part of it. We did look for the Phantom Menace anniversary merch at Springs on Sunday but nowhere had it so maybe later they will. The only thing we found was the pin in pin traders so we grabbed it!

Conclusion
We truly had the best day in Hollywood Studios celebrating Star Wars day. We have always celebrated Star Wars day in some way but his was our first time being able to do it in Disney so it was extra special. Although I feel like we get a little neglected here in Disney World when it comes to the Star Wars universe it was still a great day. I do wish they would bring back Star Wars weekends where there were tons of things going on or give us Star Wars nights like they have in Disneyland but maybe they will in the future. We just don’t seem to get the same stuff they get in their Star Wars section in Disneyland but one can only hope we will eventually. Either way we had a blast and will be there again next year!
Thank you all for reading along and I hope reading and seeing the pictures made you feel like you were there! That’s the whole point of this blog is to make you feel like you are there when you can’t be and help you with your Disney blues. So thank you for letting me share with you! Have a magical day!
