Over at Animal Kingdom Lodge you will find Boma Flavors of Florida! You will find Boma in the Jambo House of Animal Kingdom Lodge. This is an all you care to eat buffet in the most beautiful setting. We went over for dinner this week to check this amazing restaurant here in Walt Disney World. Do they have kid friendly options? Are their foods I will recognize? What if you aren't an adventurous eater? Let's jump in and do a full Boma Flavors of Africa review! Boma Flavors of Africa Menu Review Boma is a buffet with a wide variety of food for all tastes really. You can really get everything from chicken tenders to Tunisian couscous! If you like a little adventure on your plate, this is a great way to get to try a lot of new things. And if you are not so adventurous there are lots of options for you too. "Kids" Station I put kids in quotations because obviously anyone can eat off this station but it does seem to be classic kid food. Here you will find chicken tenders, mac and cheese, pasta, marinara and meatballs. This is the perfect station for those in your party that just want to stick to the familiar. There are other kid friendly options in the form of desserts and fruit as well. Carving & Meat Station The first station you come to is the carving and meat station at Boma Flavors of Africa. Here you will find Durban Chicken, Tamarind BBQ Pork Ribs, African Spiced Beef Striploin and Lamb and Beef Bobotie. The hubs and little guy had the sirloin and the ribs. The notes on these were that the ribs were perfectly cooked and had great flavor. The sirloin was cooked perfectly but they both said it didn't have a lot of flavor. Now, Thatcher may have thought he was eating lion the whole time so his opinion may be invalid! Hahaha! He saw loin and thought they were serving lion!!! This station also had olive-oil herbed-crushed potatoes, basically mashed potatoes and they were delicious and salmon that was amazing! I had the Bobotie because I wanted to try something different and it did not disappoint. It had amazing flavors and a similar texture to a quiche, I had to get seconds on this one! Hot Vegetables & Sides This station had Basmati rice, spiced green beans, Zullu cabbage, black-eyed peas with greens and Chakalaka, and coconut rice. All of my people loved the green beans! They had a little kick to them but not too much and were still a little crispy the way we like them. I had the Zullu cabbage and black-eyed peas as well. Both of these were fantastic and had incredible flavor. Cold Salads & Sides There was a regular salad station with greens and toppings to make a salad as well as a cold fruit station. The fruit was your typical strawberries, melons and had a pineapple spiced cottage cheese as well. But on the station with more African inspired salads and sides, there were some really tasty option. You had a Berbere-chickpea salad, Tunisian couscous and shrimp salad, Tabbouleh and a North African cauliflower salad. I tried the couscous, tabbouleh and cauliflower salad. All three were very good and I get tabbouleh almost anytime I can so I am not going to include that when picking a favorite. The cauliflower salad was so light and fresh tasting, I have thought about it ever since I had it! Bread Station Before we jump into the bread station, I want to mention they had an assortment of soups too. There was a corn chowder, Oxtail stew, seafood gumbo and an African vegetable stew. I tried the vegetable stew and it was perfection. I love a good stew and I love vegetables. Especially when they are cooked in a different way with great flavors. The bread station had pita bread, mealie bread, rolls and lavask. Included on this station was butter, regular hummus, sun dried tomato hummus and coriander hummus. That coriander hummus was the BOMB!!! I wish I could have taken some home with me it was amazing! Dessert Station Boma Flavors of Africa had a great dessert station. Thatcher ate his weight in chocolate chip cookies, Sawyer in little cheesecakes. There were little zebra domes so I had to have one of those. Honestly those are so sweet, that little size is so perfect! There was also a butterscotch bread pudding with a vanilla sauce and it was heavenly, highly recommend! Allergy Friendly Options This is Disney so they take great care of anyone with dietary restrictions or allergies. At Boma Flavors of Africa you will let your server know you have an allergy, as you do at all Disney restaurants. From there a manager or chef will come to talk with you about your options and what will be safest for you. The chef will walk around the buffet with you to inform you of what is safe for you on the buffet. If cross contamination could occur, the chef will note what items you would like to have and get them for you from the kitchen instead of the buffet. Soups, meats, sides and desserts are all offered for various dietary needs. There are even gluten free zebra domes! Buffets are not usually my thing because I do not feel like I eat enough to warrant the price. I definitely ate enough here! I feel like we all did except Sawyer, he is very picky and not adventurous at all. But he did enjoy what he ate! Adult Dinner Buffet - $58 plus tax Child Dinner Buffet - $34 plus tax Of course you add gratuity to this as well. Regular drinks are included with the price and alcoholic beverages are available at an additional cost. I had the Boma Oasis, lots of rum and a pretty glow cube, can't go wrong! Cocktails range from $17.50 - $20. Beer is offered between $9.50 - $11.75. There is also a wine selection and a mocktail on the menu. Conclusion The Animal Kingdom Lodge is so beautiful and has the best atmosphere. There were Cast Members playing the drums outside of Boma when we arrived, it was so fun! The fire was lit in the fireplace, the wood carver was working outside of the store, it was great. I was a little skeptical taking the kids to Boma. Thatcher will try things but overall they are not adventurous eaters. I, on the other hand am very adventurous and love to try new things! This honestly ended up being a good combination for us, the familiar and the exciting. If you are looking for somewhere to try something new without having to commit to a whole meal while also giving those picky eaters their typical favorites, this is a great option!
