A Goofy Movie Premier

If you grew up in the 80’s-90’s like me, you probably love A Goofy Movie! Great music, awesome characters and a heartwarming story. What’s not to love? Well, a couple of weeks ago we got to re-love the 1995 premier of the movie! Right where it took place 30 years ago in Disney Springs. There were two opportunities to enjoy the premier, 4pm and 7:30pm. This was not your ordinary movie screening, it was full of surprises! Complete with a red carpet, this was such a fun event with D23. I’m so excited to share the A Goofy Movie premier experience with you all!

A Goofy Movie Premier Red Carpet

Before the movie we all got to walk the red carpet at Planet Hollywood’s Stargazers bar. This was also where you checked in for the event and began your journey. A big part of A Goofy Movie is Max and Goofy’s cross country road trip! So this event was set up like you were taking a road trip to see the A Goofy Movie Premier. Stargazers had the red carpet walk and two pin stops as well as bottled drinks you could take with you to the movie. From there you started making your way “out on the open road” to the AMC theater.

The Ultimate Roadtrip Through Disney Springs

Originally, and for the 4pm showing, you made your way to the AMC entrance by the fountain. There you would find another pin stop and the banner that hung for the A Goofy Movie premier back in 1995! Then there was a path that took you around the corner by the food trucks and to the backstage entrance to AMC over by Ever Glazed and Splittsville. Along the way there were amazing photo ops representing some of our favorite moments from A Goofy Movie! Think, Max and Goofy in their car, Lester’s Possum Park and of course the Powerline concert!

But, the weather had other plans for those of us at the 7:30 showing! We entered the movie theater in that main entrance by the fountain and joined a queue line inside AMC. This was a little confusing because the photo ops were out but you weren’t really sure if you were allowed to go over and take pictures with them at this time so no one really did. I am assuming they had them contained this way so non-ticketed guests would not be able to stop and take pictures with them? Not ideal that everyone was just standing in a line waiting instead of having the little adventure they had planned but the show must go on and no one would have been happy getting rained on either!

A Goofy Movie Premier Experience

Once they were ready for us to enter the theater the line moved quickly! Before heading into the theater you were given A Goofy Movie premier activation kit and your Powerline concert credentials. We grabbed our seats and some snacks and were ready to have some fun. Now because this was celebrating the 30th anniversary of A Goofy Movie premier, there were lots of surprises in store.

The first was some A Goofy Movie trivia with our hosts and then some special guests joined the party. Bill Farmer, voice of Goofy, James Marsden, voice of Max and Kevin Lima, director of A Goofy Movie all came out on stage! There was a panel discussion about making the movie and the premier. They showed some pictures from the original premier with the sign that was hanging outside the theater and other fun memories. Then Max and Goofy came out! This was really fun and a cool moment to experience.

A Goofy Movie Premier Extra Fun

As I said, this was no ordinary movie screening! There was so much extra fun during the movie that we got to use what was in our activation kits for. We were all given a map with stickers and throughout the movie there were sticker stops. These were places or events that happen during the movie and you had a sticker to put on your map. We also had glow sticks that at different points in the movie everyone in the theater waved them around and did a little dance. We had special edition A Goofy Movie sunglasses that we all put o at the same time in the theater.

Every time someone said Roxanne during the movie we all went “OOOOOOOOO”, every time Pete said to keep your kid under your thumb we all boo’d. When Out On The Open Road came on there was a little light up, inflatable Goofy car that came out and “drove” through the audience. This would come out again later but with no lights as the sad car. Before the Powerline concert started they passed out light up things for us to party with. We were encouraged to sing and dance along at the Powerline concert, it was a vibe!

There were so many amazing costumes at this event. People dressed like Powerline, Goofy and Max and even Lester the Possum! I decided to go with Stacy. I have to say, I had the most fun interactions because I chose that character. Random people going “StaCY” and “Yo Stacy, talk to me, talk to me, talk to me, baby”. It made this event even more fun. Attractions magazine even took my picture! Hahahaha!

Conclusion

I loved this event so much! My oldest went with me and it was really cool to experience it with him. He would have made a great 80’s-90’s kid and it’s nice he isn’t embarrassed to go out with his mom dressed like a cartoon character! Hahaha! The interactive elements of this event gave it a really cool energy. D23 has done a great job with events this past year and to have this backed up with Destination D23 made this one feel even bigger. You all know I’m a sucker for Disney history. So to be able to take a picture under the banner from the original premier and then hear from Bill Farmer and James Marsden about the making of the movie made this one my favorite events yet.

If you are not a member of D23, they have a discount to join right now so what are you waiting for? There are more events before the year is out too. A Halloween Spotlight Series, Tron Ares screening event and an interactive Home Alone screening are all happening here in Florida as well as other locations. I can’t wait for more events like the A Goofy Movie premier, they definitely Stand Out! I couldn’t resist! Thank you for coming out on the open road with me and have a magical day!
